2012 NFL Training Camp: Bubble Players Who'll Burst into Stardom in Camp

Old AccountJun 2, 2018

NFL training camps are officially under way for all 32 teams, as they begin preparing for the anticipated 2012 season. There is plenty of optimism surrounding every training-camp site with regard to new players that could potentially become stars. Last year, New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz was on the roster bubble in training camp and ultimately was a key component to the team's championship victory.

In the early days of camp, what roster-bubble players could make a big statement during the next four weeks? Here are a few potential breakout players that need to be monitored throughout the preseason.

Vincent Brown (WR, San Diego Chargers)

Vincent Brown looks like he is no longer considered a roster-bubble player trying to hold onto a spot on the Chargers' depth chart. Despite the multiple veteran receivers added to the roster, Brown is poised to emerge as the third receiver on the team and play a crucial role in the offense.

During the first week of camp, Brown has displayed his ability to bring excitement to Chargers fans by making acrobatic catches. More importantly, he is making big strides towards becoming a consistent offensive threat for Philip Rivers this upcoming season.

Tandon Doss (WR, Baltimore Ravens)

The Baltimore Ravens have quite a few players who could be poised to have breakout seasons in 2012. Pernell McPhee has garnered the majority of the attention, as he could potentially build momentum from a very surprising rookie season.

However, second-year wide receiver Tandon Doss could potentially find a starting role within the offense as the third receiver. It is an open competition for the third spot on the depth chart, with Doss competing against Jacoby Jones and LaQuan Williams.

Doss has a great chance to beat out Jones and Williams, who are likely to spend most of their time on special teams. Also, Joe Flacco is certainly in favor of Doss receiving a bigger role in the offense. After all, Flacco pushed for the Ravens to select Doss, who reminded him of former teammate Derrick Mason.

Juron Criner (WR, Oakland Raiders)

Another wide receiver makes the list, and this time it involves a rookie on the Oakland Raiders. His name is Juron Criner, and he could grab more attention in training camp this year.

A fifth-round pick out of Arizona, Criner shined in OTAs and will have an opportunity to impress a new coaching staff led by head coach Dennis Allen.

Criner could potentially find himself in a big role in the Raiders' offense during his rookie season. Jacoby Ford has shown the ability to be an explosive playmaker, but has not played at a high level consistently enough to warrant a lot of attention within the offense.

The Raiders' receiving corps will continue to make massive improvements heading into the new season.

Brandon Bolden (RB, New England Patriots)

When it comes to NFL training camp, there are many young players on the New England Patriots looking to make significant contributions.

It may only be a week into camp, but undrafted-free-agent Brandon Bolden is making huge strides with the Patriots' offense. Stevan Ridley is clearly the top tailback on the roster, but Bolden has looked more impressive than second-year running back Shane Vereen.

Bolden may become the next hidden gem to find success with the Patriots.
