Atlanta Braves, an Even More In-Depth Projection

Cameron BrittFeb 21, 2009

I've had a little bit of writer's block with the lack of news and, therefore, lack of items to start a discussion around.

So today, I decided to put out my extremely in-depth projections for the 2009 Atlanta Braves. I will include the potential make-up of all four parts (lineup, front five, bullpen, and bench) and the stats I could see them attaining.

25-Man Roster

TOP NEWS

Washington Nationals v Los Angeles Angels
New York Yankees v. Chicago Cubs

Lineup and Potential Stats (vs. RHP lineup, but I will include the platoon together)

1) L CF Josh Anderson/Jordan Schafer   .284  11 HR  67 RBI (combined)

2) R SS Yunel Escobar                        .297  14 HR  74 RBI

3) S 3B Chipper Jones                         .348  21 HR  94 RBI

4) L  C  Brian McCann                         .301  28 HR  104 RBI

5) R RF Jeff Francoeur                        .263  21 HR  98 RBI

6) L 2B Kelly Johnson                          .278  18 HR  81 RBI

7) L 1B Casey Kotchman                     .284  13 HR  76 RBI

8) L/R LF Brandon Jones/Matt Diaz        .292  25 HR  85 RBI (combined)

*Schafer and Anderson are NOT a platoon, this is a prediction of Jordan coming up midseason.

Front Five and Potential Stats

1) R Derek Lowe                                15-9   3.56 ERA  143 K

2) R Jair Jurrjens                                14-7   3.44 ERA  194 K

3) R Javier Vazquez                            12-10  3.98 ERA  214 K

4) R Kenshin Kawakmi                          10-7     3.87 ERA  173 K

5) L/R Tom Glavine/Tommy Hanson        11-11  4.07  ERA  158 K (combined)

*The No. 5 spot is predicting Glavine goes down with injury and Tommy Hanson being called up to take over.

Bullpen and Potential Stats

LRP R Jorge Campillo                          3-7  3.76 ERA  83 K  23 App

MRP R Blaine Boyer                            6-5  3.23 ERA  74 K  82 App

LOOGY L Boone Logan                        3-4  3.89 ERA  35 K  75 App

MRP R Manny Acosta                         5-4  3.12 ERA  75 K  80 App

SU R Peter Moylan                            3-3  2.76 ERA  65 K  74 App

SU R Rafael Soriano                          4-4  3.45 ERA  79 K  84 App

CL L Mike Gonzalez                           4-1  3.21 ERA  48 K  41 Saves

*LOOGY is a LH Specialist

As Brett said in the comments, the Bullpen arms all having under a three ERA may be too optimistic, but if I had to change them, it'd be two: Jorg Campillo and Boone Logan.

Bench NO STATS (no way to be accurate with these b/c unknown appearances)

OF  Matt Diaz/Brandon Jones

C David Ross

UTIL Omar Infante

INF Martin Prado

PHS Greg Norton

Final Stats

90-72 (if my calculations are correct)

Team ERA: 3.42

Team K Tot: 1335 (maybe a bit lofty)

Team HR Tot: 151+Bench total

Team Run Tot: 679+Bench+Unearned runs

Let the debate begin. Tell me what I got wrong and right, and I'll issue you my feedback.
