Yankees Spring Training Notes: Day Seven
Bronx Baseball DailyFeb 20, 2009
As I point out everyday, if you haven’t already, you should start reading Peter Abraham’s blog. He’s gone steroid free and he frequently updates on the happenings at Spring Training.
That said, he posts a lot of important information that my readers should see and not everyone has time so sift through his many updates. So I have done it for you and added a few notes from other sources.
- Pitcher Chien-Ming Wang threw to live hitters today for the first time since his injury last summer. He said everything went well and he has no pain in his foot.
- Bernie Williams took BP against him and got a hard line shot off him. Not bad for someone who hasn’t played in two years.
- Andrew Brackman pitched today and Abraham reported that his mechanics are a lot more solid than he anticipated. Although, he does point out not to expect him until after 2010 because he still has a lot to learn.
- Damaso Marte’s hamstring must be feeling better because he was out and running today. Maybe he’ll play in the WBC yet.
- Nick Swisher admitted that he wasn’t exactly thrilled when the Yankees signed Mark Teixeira. He said that feels like he’s primarily a first baseman.
- Also Peter Abraham notes that Johnny Damon and Xavier Nady are in a little bit of financial trouble thanks to the Stanford scandal. Unless this in someway affects them on the field this is probably the only time I’m going to mention this because I really don’t care about the finances of rich people.
- Also, via Tyler Kepner, Joe Girardi admitted he probably waited too long to confront Robinson Cano on how he was playing last season.

"“Would it have helped if I had acted sooner? It’s quite possible,” Girardi said. “That’s something that I know, now, about him. I know him better as a person, he knows me better as a person and we can try to stay away from that situation.”
"
- Also, Brian Hoch notes that the way things are set up now, barring any injuries CC Sabathia is lined up to start Opening Day. Girardi didn’t confirm that was his intent.
