Wrestlemania's Weakness in 2009

Sterling EbyFeb 20, 2009

Year in and year out, Money in the Bank is always a show stealing match. For the past five years Money in the Bank has showcased some of the coolest, roughest, and craziest spots in wrestling in the past five years. My only problem with it is, I personally believe, that it is getting stale.

The ladder match has been a specialty match highlighted at Wrestlemania ever since Shawn Michaels highlighted the match at Wrestlemania X. Since 2000, the ladder match has been used at Wrestlemania on six different occasions, all arguably matches that stole the show.

The Money in the Bank ladder match was first used at Wrestlemania 21. And since then Edge twice (once through Mr. Kennedy), Rob Van Dam, and CM Punk have all successfully won their first WWE Championship through the usage of Money in the Bank. So this is where i begin to explain why I believe it is stale.

Every year, Money in the Bank is pretty much a glorified WWE Mid-Carders heaven, all the talented Midcarders finally get a chance to show their honest talents. Which is the major reason it always steals the show. But with the lack of WWE star power in the match always makes the match pretty predictable on who will win the match.

I have said this a million times and I don't disagree on the statement. Why not have The Undertaker in the match. Money in the Bank's first flaw is that it never seems to have any true heavyweights. I say the Undertaker because it would put serious jeopardy on his Wrestlemania streak, which would put more pressure on the match, and make it an honest match for his streak.

There is a few names that I always throw in the mix for legit contenders. Why not throw a Mark Henry, or a Kane in the match. So many different high spots those two can do in that match.

The same revolving circle of mid carders always appears in the match. We always get Shelton Benjamin, a talented kid. CM Punk will more than likely appear in the match. Seeing as he has no rivalry going on going into the match. More than likely we will get John Morrison and The Miz. Probably Carlito and MVP.

I hope you see where I am going. I just don't understand why they cant throw more WWE star power in the match. Why not throw the Big Show in the match. When can you recall The Big Show being in a Ladder match?

Why not throw a Rey Mysterio in there? He has yet to appear in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Even better, why not surprise the crowd with a secret wrestler.

It could be Rob Van Dam, it could be a Sabu. It could be JBL even. The match just always seems to never hide the secrets. Maybe that's the biggest flaw with it. That is the reason why unless the WWE makes some changes, this Money in the Bank match will be stale.
