Feb. 19, 2009: A Horrible Day in Indiana Sports

Sixty Feet, Six Inches Feb 20, 2009

Yesterday sucked, and that's putting it mildy if you're a fan of any Indianapolis team.

Let's start with the Pacers. The trade deadline came and went with no deals made. Rasho Nesterovic, Jarrett Jack, Marquis Daniels and Jamaal Tinsley—all trade bait, but no bites.

Pacers fans gathered at our beloved Pacers Digest to discuss rumors. The deadline passed, and we all just sat there. Some of us called it, figuring that with the current financial situation of the Pacers, nothing would happen.

Others were foaming at the mouth, wanting to tear Basketball Jesus limb-from-limb.

Then, just when we thought all the bad Pacers-related news was done for the day, I get a text message from the Pacers informing me that Danny Granger is out 10-21 days with a partial tendon tear.

The day went from bad to worse.

Barring a small miracle, we can kiss our playoff hopes goodbye. This horrible sequence of events just kept on rolling.

Following all of this I saw a thread on the Pacers Digest boards, in the Colts section. The title seemed almost unthinkable to me: "Marvin Harrison...CUT!"

Inside the thread was the story that confirmed it all. I mean, it's not the same as the Colts losing Manning, but this is still huge.

We kind of saw it coming after last season. Back-to-back injury plagued, as well as underperforming, years. We felt like we were watching Marvin for the last time. Now we know.

The best receiver the Colts ever had in Indy is gone, never again to return.

Yesterday sucked. Our playoff hopes were dashed, one All-Star is out with an injury, and one legend is out for good. Oh well at least we still have the Hoosiers! Wait, they lost yesterday too! What a surprise.
