The REAL Reason the Main Events Were Changed for Wrestlemania 25

Ladies and Gentlemen, children of all ages and the millions watching at home, welcome to THE No. 1 wrestling column going...bar the other 3010 on here...but its a column, so let's get to it.

It was all set, the wheels were in motion, the main event of Wrestlemania 25 was locked, it was to be ya boiiiii, Ice Ice John Ceeeennnaaaaa vs The Viper Randy "The Push" Orton.

Sure we'd seen it before (89 times), on PPV, on Raw, on House Shows but the biggest babyface in the biz was due to lock up with the biggest heel they have. One problem...if they went ahead with it, it would have destroyed Cena.

It's no secret that Cena isn't universally liked. Sure, he gets a lot more cheers now than before his return from surgery..but at PPV's something happens to the crowd. It is almost tradition now to boo the crap out of Johhny C and none more so than at (in Vince's best gravelly voice) WRRRRRRRESSSSTTTLLLEEEMAAAAAANIIAAAA!!!! 

The thought process was that the crowd were getting into Orton. He is getting the push of a lifetime, and the audience is responding. If they ran with Cena vs Orton, Cena would have got booed out of Texas. You can forget "Lets Go Cena, Let's Go Orton" chants. It would have been "RKO RKO" vs "Cena Sucks".

The problem is, WWE have just got their merchandise machine back in favour with the fans, to have Cena buried on such a grand stage would mean that a heel turn would be forced on WWE and right now, they need their babyface to sell the t-shirts, hats, wristbands, nappies etc

On top of that, Orton would be a face and again WWE need him as their No.1 heel. So what to do??

Simple, have Cena go up against Vickie G and Edge, sure Cena will still get booed but not so much as he would against Orton and have the Haitch HHH go up against Orton. Again Orton will still get cheered but in this case so will HHH.

There are other factors involved here too. The main one being, HHH vs Edge is not a marquee match. There just isn't the chemistry there. I don't know anyone that was interested in seeing that rematch, Hunter included. He wanted to go up against the biggest star in the company right now, and that, is Orton.

For me, neither match really screams Main Event for such a massive event as WM25...my card would be this (if WWE had gone in a slightly different direction):

Hulk Hogan vs Stone Cold Steve Austin (Retirement match, Legend vs Legend)

'Taker vs HBK (rematch of the decade)

Cena vs Batista (if he was healthy) WHC Championship match

Jericho vs Mickey Rourke - Flair in Rourkes corner (I think once the Oscars are over, Rourke will come back into the picture)

HHH vs Orton WWE Championship match

Jeff vs Matt TLC

Edge vs Christian

Trish Stratus vs Beth Phoenix (Woman's title)

Miz and Morrison vs Cryme Tyme vs Priceless (Tag Unification Bout)

Kane vs Big Show vs Khali vs Kozlov  (Battle Royale)

Rey Mysterio vs Shelton vs Kofi vs MVP vs Kennedy vs Swagger vs Rtruth  vs Finlay (MITB)

That to me is a Wrestlemania. A stacked card, but not a single match is wasted or uninteresting.
