College Football: Top Five Programs of the Past Ten Years

matt starnesFeb 18, 2009

It’s never easy deciphering the best of the best in college football. Some programs flourished in the 70’s, some in the 80’s and 90’s, while some never achieve greatness and others are great in every era.

Perhaps there is bias in this statement, but with the influx of popularity in college football these past years, combined with the controversy of the BCS, it is has been quite interesting and safe to say—very exciting.

Forget the wins, losses, and recruiting domination, USC deserves to be here because there are so many damn good looking people in Southern California. Couple that with arguably hottest cheerleaders in college football and that alone merits a top honor.

After surfing through the beauty and the glamour, they have also managed to muster up two National Championships in 2003 (No. 1 in Associated Press) and 2004.

Pete Carroll has planted his boisterously-beloved ass at the top of the college football polls every time you look.

Let’s tell it like it is, USC has become college football's media darling. If the USC quarterback flexes his bicep for the camera, Lee Corso of ESPN shivers with fascination and the entire sports media rushes to send the telegraph—"USC is the best team in college football!."

But let's be honest, in the Pete Carroll era, USC has been 13-3 against top ten opponents.

USC has won the last seven straight Pac 10 Titles, while also finishing in the top five every year since 2002. Say what you wish, but who is the last team in the country you want to play in the big game? Thought so.

Florida is more than a vacation destination, to the Gator nation it has been heaven on earth. Although ones theological history may be a bit hazy, it must be confusing for the Florida faithful, being that Steve Spurrier was the coming of Jesus himself.

The times have been turbulent in Florida, with years of worship and devotion for the all and powerful Spurrier, while also casting lord Zook to exile or offering him a place in the lion's den, there is still a new and more hip savior in town.

This Jesus is even more prosperous, better looking, and has a much much better beard-and-hair combination.

So, it has been a rough road for the Florida fans having to shift their religious path. In the past 10 years, the Gators have been blessed with three SEC Championships, two BCS National Titles, and they continuously dominate the best conference in college football.

The bad news for the rest of the league…they are not finished.
