New Jersey Nets in the Playoffs? They Can't Do It Without Vince Carter

Mark Joshua CastroFeb 18, 2009

The New Jersey Nets have plenty of trade rumors as the trade deadline approaches.

Three Texas teams are interested in Carter, as are the Portland Trail Blazers and the Cavs.

But the rumors involving the Cavs are likely dead. The Cavs are still winning and still believing that they would win with their current roster even without VC.

The Spurs also think that they don't need VC, because they would give up many of their players just for one and the Nets don't have enough space in their roster. It would be really difficult to happen unless they would make it a three-team trade.

As I see for the Mavs, I really thought that the trade would be good for both teams because VC and Kidd’s chemistry was perfect in New Jersey. The only problem during their Nets days was the lack of a quality big man.

To think that VC never had a star player PF or C.  The rookie Chris Bosh and the retiring Olajuwon were the best big teammates VC had. Still, he always pushed through the second round of the playoffs—unlike his cousin T-Mac, even though he was already with Yao.

If Carter signed with the Mavs, Kidd and Carter's chemistry would only be used in half a season because the Mavs wouldn't resign Kidd—so it would be Carter and Nowitzki for the Mavs' next season.

The Blazers want VC because they believe that they can't push deeper in the playoffs without a superstar—and also a playoff-caliber veteran like VC. But I don't think B-Roy and VC would mesh with each other well. B-Roy is still in the way of thinking "this is my team."

As for the Nets, if they trade VC for sure this season is over. All of the Nets' roster doesn’t want the management to trade VC because they know that following DH would lead them to nothing but a few wins.

There are a lot of issues now about Harris being self-centered and insecure about VC.  Did you see Harris' face when VC hit the winning shot against the Hawks?

Devin Harris didn't even mention VC during his All-Star selection—he thinks too high of himself now.  Unlike LeBron fighting for his teammate Mo Williams until Stern hears him—and all of us know that VC is more deserving than Mo.

Harris only averages 6.5 assist—a low average for a point guard. Harris only wants the spotlight right now because he knows that he is sill young and he is a part of the Nets' future—unlike VC. VC needs and wants to win now.

The Nets can actually do that if they can get Amare from the suns. If VC isn't traded and the Nets managed to get Amare they could win now and help VC be a Net for the rest of his his career.

Vince would also have a hard time finding a home for his jersey when he retires if he gets traded again this year. Actually, the Raptors should hang his jersey, but they are so unappreciative of what has Carter had done for that franchise. They are blind not to see that—even the fans.

Even they already know that VC's interview of not playing hard was edited. Even they know the management didn't get the pieces of players carter needed. The only good players they gave for VC was Jalen and Donyell.

Can you imagine what career Carter would have had if Colangelo arrived during Carter's Era with the Raptors? Well, if you don't know VC is the most unappreciated superstar in the NBA—an All-Star snub and unappreciated by the teams he's playing for.

Well, if a trade goes for Carter, for sure the nets fans would listen no more.

"Did you see VC??" and it’s a VC Three!!!"

Nets fans would surely miss that.

This is like a trade for Harris to emerge—or it could backfire on them because a player like Harris can't handle a pressure alone. VC was the one who always catches the pressure and the blame for the team. Well, either way, we'll see what happen.
