Nick Saban Crosses The Line In Recruiting Second Graders

Larry BurtonFeb 18, 2009

Everyone knows Nick Saban is a ruthless recruiter.  He works 22 hours a day at his job leaving one hour for breakfast with the family and one hour to sleep.

But now Saban has crossed the line with an experiment called "Operation Brainwash".

It seems a local second grade class had to do a letter-writing exercise in class, and chose to write Saban a letter.  Seeing the value of his marquee among second graders, Nick decided to see if he could get them all to become future Alabama students and athletes.

So, with help from psychology professors, he devised a brain-washing technique to instill total loyalty.

"He sent us a thank you card, a team photo and a box, which was filled with Alabama football T-shirts," the teacher said. "They were so excited. We had no idea we would get the shirts."

Little did she know the shirts were soaked in a special chemical that made everyone love the Crimson Tide, and the thank you note was filled with subliminal messages.  If you take the first letter of each word and arrange them backward it probably says, "You must play for Alabama".

In addition to playing for Alabama, messages within the note also duped the students to send Nick Little Debbie Snack Cakes.

Obviously it worked, as the class not only sent thank you notes, but a box of Little Debbie oatmeal snack cakes as well.  As for the mind-altering chemical in the shirts, the class' lone Tennessee fan, eight-year-old Hannah Benson, was wearing her Alabama shirt Tuesday.

"My dad didn't know what to say when I told him we were getting the shirts," said Benson, who must now be considering signing a track or gymnastics Letter of Intent with Alabama someday.

As for little Petey McDougal, who scored three touchdowns in yesterday's recess game, he could cause Alabama an NCAA violation should he sign one day with Alabama since Nick has obviously tossed the rule book out the window by showering potential signees with these gifts.

But seeing the success he's had here, "Operation Brainwash" is now going full-speed ahead.

Nick Saban is changing the hearts and minds of potential athletes all over the nation, one second grade class at a time.
