College Football: 2013 Weekly Recruiting Roundup June 28-July 12

Michael FelderJun 6, 2018

We had the week off here at Your Best 11, and that means we've got to cover a couple of weeks with the round up. We're only going to hit a few of the big names here, but there was some good action on the trail. As you all know, The Opening took place, and it was great for the best of the best to compete against one another.

To kick things off, we will start out on the West Coast with the big man Lane Kiffin, who has been burning down the trail when it comes to getting commitments for the men of Troy. Since we left you all, the Trojans have had four kids pledge allegiance to the program.

Khaliel Rodgers, an offensive lineman from Maryland, and Nico Falah, a big lineman from California, both committed to Lane Kiffin and staff. On the defensive side of things, Eddie Vanderdoes, a defensive lineman, and standout linebacker Michael Hutchings both joined the Trojans' small but talented class.

Staying out West, we head north to the Trojans' main competition for the Pac-12 this year: Oregon. The Ducks picked up a commitment from Alex Redmond. Redmond is an offensive lineman who impressed some folks at The Opening and is now looking to join Chip Kelly's team come 2013.

Sticking to the northern part of the country, we trek to the Midwest to hit on the Wisconsin Badgers and to the East Coast for the Penn State Nittany Lions.

In Madison, Brett Bielema and his staff have secured a commitment from Darius Latham, one of the nation's top ranked defensive linemen. Penn State continues its somewhat surprisingly strong push on the recruiting trail by getting a pledge from Zayd Issah, a high school linebacker who is listed as an athlete by most recruiting services.

In the ACC, it is Florida State that has done the most work since our last recruiting update. The Seminoles, like USC, got four new pledges to their 2013 class. Defensive back Adrian Baker, wide receiver Isaiah Jones, offensive lineman Ryan Hoefeld and linebacker Freddie Stevenson all made the choice to commit to Florida State within a week, per the Orlando Sentinel.

The Seminoles have 17 players committed, and Jimbo Fisher is pushing to get talent into their coffers as a way to push for that elusive ACC championship.

Clemson—which has seen its fair share of controversy thanks largely to the Nkemdiche package deal situation—also got a commitment since our last update: Ryan Jenkins is a wide receiver who should help add some depth once he gets to Pickens County.

From the school known as "Auburn with a lake" to the real Auburn we go, as Gene Chizik was able to land two commitments so far in July.

Jason Smith, a big-time athlete, committed to Gene Chizik to truly boost the Tigers' class rankings for 2013. Chizik also addressed something that's become far more important in college football: the kicking game. Daniel Carlson, a kicker out of Colorado, pledged to the Tigers, and that is a push to help solidify the Auburn kicking game.

The Auburn Tigers give way to the LSU Tigers. The Bayou Bengals really set the pace for recruiting in the SEC this week with three commitments. Linebacker Melvin Jones and defensive end Lewis Neal both pledged to the 2013 class to help keep that defensive culture going in Red Stick. On the offensive side of things, tight end DeSean Smith also joined the 2013 haul for Les Miles.

Finally, we wrap up with Texas A&M, as Kevin Sumlin continues to use his swag to sell kids on the Aggies. Two defensive commits jump into the boat for the first year head coach as linebacker Darian Claiborne and defensive tackle Hardreck Walker both pledged to the program in College Station.

For Texas A&M to truly compete in the SEC West, it has to shore up the defensive side of things. Getting talented ball players is the first step in that process.
