Wimbledon 2012: Andy Murray Should Use LeBron James' Success as Motivation

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

Andy Murray should use LeBron James' success in the 2012 NBA Finals with the Miami Heat as motivation while he prepares to play Roger Federer in Sunday's men's final at Wimbledon.

Murray talked about James' situation on Wednesday, per Wimbledon.com:

"

No, but I always enjoy seeing that because I follow basketball a lot and watch a lot of the sports news and stuff. There's a lot of people out there that didn't want him to win. There's a lot of people that said he would never win. There's a lot of people who said he never played his best in finals. In the fourth quarter of games he never steps up.

Then you see how he played the whole of the Finals, the whole of the Playoffs. Sometimes it takes guys a bit longer than others.

Murray, like James before this year's playoffs, has been unable to play his best when a title is on the line.

After seeing James stand up to his critics and prove he can play at a high level when his sport's ultimate prize was on the line, Murray must realize that he also has the ability to erase a difficult past and become a champion.

Although debatable, the pressure on Murray to win may not be as great as the pressure James was under this season in Miami, but that doesn't mean the challenge will be easy for Murray.

However, just like James, Murray doesn't face an impossible task. He will have to defeat a legend in Roger Federer, but the 16-time Grand Slam champion is not at the peak of his career. He's beatable, and if Murray believes he can win, then he will become Wimbledon champion.

Using James' success as motivation would be a great way for Murray to approach Sunday's final.
