US Olympic Trials 2012: Saturday Event Schedule, TV Info and More

Saturday marks the start of Day 6 of the 2012 U.S Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb., where the best water-based American athletes are competing for the privilege of representing the Stars and Stripes in London this summer.

All eyes will be on Team USA teammates and rivals Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte on Saturday because both men are scheduled to face off in the men's 200-meter individual medley to conclude the Day 6 action. Both athletes are already locks for London, but will be going head-to-head several times at the Summer Games.

Lochte has more to prove without question though, as Phelps boasts 14 Olympic gold medals, eight of which he won at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games—an individual record. Lochte will need to be at his best in order to surpass Phelps in the pool on Saturday night. According to The Detroit Free Press, he's feeling good:

"The 200 back is probably one of the hardest events known to swimming, it just takes all your legs out of you. Being able to come up and step up on the blocks and race Michael Phelps, it's definitely a challenge, but I'm up for it."

Both men are capable of winning the 200-meter individual medley this weekend, but you can be assured whoever does will be the favorite to bring home gold for the U.S. in London this summer.
