Trade Rumors of the Day

Brandon RibakFeb 14, 2009

With the Slam-Dunk contest finally approaching during the next couple of hours, we take a look at the most recent trade rumors of the day.

Amar’e Stoudemire

Most likely to get traded to:

With Jayson Tatum sidelined, Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Game 7 loss to 76ers
DENVER NUGGETS VS GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, NBA

Chicago Bulls- The Bulls would have to give up power-forward’s Tyrus Thomas and Drew Gooden, along with shooting-guard Thabo Sefolosha.

Tyrus Thomas contract- $3.7 million this season, $4.7 million 09-10 season.

Drew Gooden contract- $7.1 million expiring contract this season.

Thabo Sefolosha- $1.9 million this season, $2.7 million 09-10 season.

Analysis of the trade

The Bulls would be giving up a big potentially dynamic player in Tyrus Thomas. He has extreme upside to emerge as a serious NBA star in the years so come. Drew Gooden’s contract expires at the end of the season, so he is a perfect throw in to make the deal look better for the Suns. Thabo Sefolosha is only in his third NBA season and has minimal potential.

Will this trade go through?

I do not see this trade being accepted. The Bulls will not be contending for the Championship this season even with Amar’e on the team. (That would definitely upset Amar’e).

Cleveland Cavaliers- The Cavs would give up small-forward Wally Szczerbiak, center Anderson Varejao, and power-forward J.J. Hickson.

Wally Szczerbiak contract- $13 million expiring contract this season.

Anderson Varejao contract- $5.7 million this season and a $6.2 million player-option contract for the 09-10 season.

J.J. Hickson contract- $1.3 million this season, $1.4 million 09-10 season.

Analysis of the trade

Varejao is a young player that could be a consistent center when averaging starter minutes. J.J. Hickson has already shown signs of improvement this year and will become a great forward within a few seasons.

Will this trade go through?

I do not see this trade being accepted either. The Cavs would be giving up two young players with great potential to excel in the years to come. The trade would have to involve more players as well.

Onto the next trade rumor,

New Jersey Nets star Vince Carter to be possibly traded to the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs would give up one of the best shooters in the game, Roger Mason, along with rookie guard George Hill, all-time great defender Bruce Bowen, and center Fabricio Oberto.

Analysis of the trade

If the Spurs can land this deal they will be in a great position to make it to the NBA Finals this season. Vince Carter has yet to win a Championship in his career and would get the perfect opportunity to do so if dealt to the Spurs.

Will this trade go through?

This trade is very possibly to be accepted before the trade deadline. It would certainly improve the Spurs roster and give them a great chance to win another Championship.
