Ray Allen Rumors: All-Time 3-Point Leader Should Chase Another Title in Miami

Ben ChodosJun 28, 2012

Ray Allen has put together one of the most impressive résumés in NBA history, and the only way he can improve it is with another championship. His best chance to get one is with the Miami Heat.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld.com reported via Twitter that Miami is the most likely destination for the shooting guard:

"

The general consensus around the NBA is that Ray Allen will sign with Miami. "Barring a change, he'll join the Heat," said a league source.

Allen has sunk the most three-point field goals of any NBA player in history and has the all-time record for most three-pointers made in a season.

He still shoots the long ball with devastating accuracy and hit 45.3 percent of his shots from beyond the arc this past season. He averaged 14.2 points on 45.8 percent shooting from the field and 91.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Those are the statistics of a savvy veteran who can play a valuable role on a championship team. Allen is an efficient player who has won a title and will know what it takes to win another one.

He struggled with injuries last season, which limited his ability to practice during the postseason, but he showed grit and toughness and fought through the pain to average 10.7 points.

Allen’s production dropped during the postseason due to his injury, but he showed that he is a warrior who will do whatever it takes to get on the floor and help his team.

His lights-out jumper will be a dangerous weapon on the Heat. The team proved how truly dominant they can be with a knock-down three-point shooter in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

After four closely contested matchups to start the series, Game 5 was a blowout for Miami, partly because Mike Miller hit seven of his eight three-pointers and scored 23 points.

Allen is capable of putting on this type of performance with much more consistency than Miller, who couldn’t be counted on to perform well regularly in either of his two seasons with Miami.

If Allen signed with the Heat, it would greatly benefit both parties involved. Allen would be signing with the team that gives him the best chance to win a championship, while Miami would be filling a need by adding an excellent three-point shooter.
