Big WWE Superstar Switching Brands At The WWE Draft?

Joe Burgett Feb 13, 2009

For about five years now we have seen superstars from Raw, ECW, and SmackDown be involved in the WWE Draft. And every year, we see at least three or four big superstars from their respective brands get drafted to another show.

Last year, for instance, we saw Triple H and Jeff Hardy of Raw get drafted to SmackDown. While Rey Mysterio and Batista of SmackDown got drafted to Raw.

So who will be going this year? Well one name is for sure going to leave his brand and it is not surprise to many wrestling fans. His name is Christian Cage.

I know I write many Cage articles, but this is big news so if you're not a fan, bear with me.

Cage is now on the ECW Brand, and many think that it was a mistake to put him there. I for one have mentioned in a previous article that I liked the move by the WWE. Not only was it shocking to see him there, but they actually surprised us as they wanted.

Right now Cage looks to be heading into a feud with Jack Swagger, the ECW Champion. And since young champions only last as Champion for about three to four months, it looks as if Cage could win the Title from him.

That would set up him having to lose the title somehow before going to...SmackDown. I know shocking right? pwrestlingnews.com confirms it, as well as wrestlenewz.com.

Since the draft is in April and close to the previous PPV, Wrestlemania, that would mean he could win the title at 'Mania or at an ECW show, live most likely. Then he would lose it to Tommy Dreamer.

However, another idea that has been thrown around is having Edge and Christian square off Champion vs Champion. WWE Title vs ECW Title. If he wins it, of course, and Edge is still champion.

Not many are sure if Edge will retain through the Wrestlemania PPV, or even No Way Out in a few days. But one thing that is for sure is that Cage will be drafted to SmackDown.

Most likely he would renew his rivalry with Edge, therefore setting up another SmackDown brother vs brother. Which I like, but am kind of wondering if it will work.

We would see a Hardy vs Hardy for a while and then Edge and Christian would have to follow it. Which I do not see happening. If the WWE does decide to go that route they may not have a good response.

Even with the Champion vs Champion possibilities it just doesn't look good. I would want to see Cage lose his title match to Swagger when they square off, then get drafted soon after to SmackDown.

He could possibly be good buddies with Edge and we could see a tag team going on with them, then all of the sudden one turns on the other. But I would wait until the end of the year or in 2010 before doing it.

Have us really liking the idea of seeing them together and then all of the sudden see one turn on the other. It sounds good, but it is yet to be seen.

As we all know, Cage may get drafted to SmackDown, but it is possible that Edge could get drafted to either Raw or ECW. If that happens, I see Cage being a big winner. Not only will he be a top contender for the Title, but he may have Vickie on his side too.

If Edge is his brother then that means she would take care of him, if you know what I mean, on SmackDown. But it is possible we could see a curve ball thrown where a GM switches brands too.

Last year we saw Michael Cole and Jim Ross switch brands on the annoucing table. So if that can happen, no one is safe. There is many possibilities to think about.

But there is only one thing for certain, Christian Cage is SmackDown bound.
