WWE News: Latest Update on the New Weekly WWE Program, 'WWE Main Event'

Chris HumphreyJun 26, 2012

In a press release Monday, the WWE announced the creation of the company’s third television program, WWE Main Event, that will be broadcast on the Ion television network to go alongside Raw and Smackdown every week.

Before the announcement of the new WWE program, former television shows Superstars and NXT did not find much success, as the two shows are no longer airing on WGN America and bound to being broadcast on WWE.com, respectively.

Here are the details from F4WOnline (via WrestlingInc.com) on the current plans for the new WWE program set to begin later this fall.

As noted before, WWE will premiere a new show called WWE Main Event on the ION Television network beginning Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST. The one-hour show will feature WWE Superstars and Divas every Wednesday night.

Word is that the show will be a step up from Superstars, occasionally featuring top Superstars and some of the top storylines from RAW and SmackDown.

Even though featuring top superstars and storylines from the two major brands on the new weekly WWE program, it would have been a better choice by the company to instead broadcast the newly-revamped NXT that has received rave reviews from the fans.

With a chance to see the future of the WWE in a more intimate atmosphere on NXT, the show could have a better chance to build a fanbase with the fans than WWE Main Event, as the show features the commentating of fan favorite, Jim Ross and William Regal.

Following the announcement of the new weekly program to the WWE’s schedule, what are your opinions on WWE Main Event, and could it end up being a success for the company in the long run?
