John Paxon To Resign...Hopefully
According to my sources, John Paxson will soon decide to call it quits as general manager of the Chicago Bulls.
He will admit his tenure has been long and a complete failure.
The era of the Bulls winning all those championships seems a century ago.
I only wish he had decided sooner to step down. He has made dumb trades, drafted terrible players, and hired awful coaches.
He was a better radio announcer criticizing those awful Chicago Bulls teams following the Jordan.
He hires Scott Skiles, who was such a disciplinarian and whose methods would work only with college kids playing for free—not spoiled millionaires which the NBA is full of. He traded away Elton Brand for a draft pick he used on a high school kid.
He should have been fired for that move alone.
I hope this rumor is true. I think John Paxson is better suited to the college game, perhaps back at his alma matter of Notre Dame. He would make a much better coach than a general manager.
If John Paxson does step down I hope the name Doug Collins is not brought up again. He is another guy who just not seem to go away from this once-great basketball organization.
The hiring this year of coach Del Negro was another terrible hiring decision in Johns years with the Bulls.
My biggest beef with Paxson, however, was how quick he was in axing Bill Cartwright as coach of the Bulls. I thought he gave his former teammate no chance at all.
The next general manager of the Bulls needs to ship out some of this dead weight that has been on the roster for a few years that apparently Paxson wan unwilling or unable to trade.
