Manchester United Transfer Rumors: Red Devils Must Make Late Luka Modric Push
Manchester United has been linked to Tottenham star Luka Modric ever since the season ended, and with talks starting to heat up, it's time for the Red Devils to make a bold move.
Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail reports Modric will be asking Spurs to move him during the transfer window so he can participate in the Champions League. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the dynamic midfielder.
Along with the Champions League, joining United would give Modric a great chance to compete for the Premier League title. After missing out by a single point during the last campaign, Sir Alex Ferguson likely views Modric as the piece to put them over the top.

The 26-year-old Croatian international is coming off another impressive season for Tottenham. He's one of the most versatile midfielders in the EPL, capable of joining the attack or getting back to provide help in the defensive third.
His numbers don't jump off the page, with just five goals and six assists across all competitions, but those who watch him on a weekly basis know it's the things he does to jump-start an attack that make him one of the most coveted players on the market.
He makes quick decisions and delivers pinpoint passes, making him an ideal target for the Red Devils' midfield, which struggled with consistency and injuries last season.
It even reached a point where the Red Devils convinced veteran Paul Scholes to come out of retirement to provide a spark. Scholes actually played pretty well considering the quick turnaround, but he won't be able to play the role of savior for much longer.
That's why Ferguson must start making his move in the Modric sweepstakes. He's still on the upswing of his career, and acquiring him now would ensure his best seasons come while wearing the Manchester United uniform.
The team has already brought in midfielders Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell, but it's going to take some time before those young guns are ready to make major contributions at the Premier League level. Modric is ready to dominate from day one.
While beating out Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and any other contenders that may arise late in the process won't be easy, Ferguson has been through his fair share of transfer battles. He will pull a few things out of his bag of tricks to help convince him that Old Trafford should be his new home.
Signing Modric would be a huge step toward getting the Premier League title back. United should step up its efforts to make it happen before another team swipes him.
