In an All-Too-Common Occurrence, Vol's Lane Kiffin Forced To Apologize Again

Larry BurtonFeb 12, 2009

In what has become a far too common occurrence, Lane Kiffin had to take the podium once again and apologize for being a spoiled little boy with too much mouth and too little intelligence.

This time he was forced to apologize to the school where recruit Nu'Keese Richardson attends.  Kiffin implied, no just outright said that this school, Pahokee High School, has a bunch of idiots in charge of things and Richardson's aunts had to handle the paperwork because the school was too stupid to do it.

He said, and I quote, "They (the aunts) didn't go do it at the school because they knew somebody at the school was going to screw it up, the fax machine wouldn't work or they would have changed the signatures. All the things that go on in Pahokee, now.

"The aunts took it over to a junior high, found a fax machine that worked and faxed them over to us at 7 o'clock and I kept it in a drawer until their 1 o'clock press conference."

Now get this.  Kiffin isn't sorry he said this at all.  He was just sorry that the comments leaked out of a "booster" meeting and were made public.

The fact that he didn't think the comments would be made public shows a shocking level of naivete and just plain stupidity, given the number of cameras and people in the audience.

Said one Tennessee supporter, "It's getting harder to take up for this man when every time he steps in front of the mike, he makes himself look foolish and ends up embarassing everyone at Tennessee."

The Pahokee Chamber of Commerce has sent this letter to University of Tennessee Chancellor Jimmy Cheek. The letter was also copied to UT football coach Lane Kiffin, athletic director Mike Hamilton, and SEC commissioner Mike Slive.  Perhaps Kiffin will get yet ANOTHER letter of admonition for this.

Dear Sir:

Congratulations on a successful recruitment of one of Pahokee's talented football players: Nu'Keese Richardson. He will be the first from Pahokee to play on a Volunteer team. We wish him success in your program and will anxiously watch his progress.

That being said, our tight-knit community has great concern over recent comments made by head Coach Kiffin. "Someone at the school was going to screw it up. The fax machine wouldn't work, or they would have changed signatures, all the things that go on in Pahokee."

For Coach Kiffin to express these negative concerns in a public format were unprofessional and only serve to tarnish both schools and their football programs.

A public letter of apology to the proud, hard-working residents of Pahokee, the professional staff of Pahokee Middle-Senior High School, and the dedicated coaching staff of PHS would be an appropriate response to this letter.

Yours truly,

Lewis Pope III, President

Stay tuned for Kiffin's next press conference when Kiffin will declare that any recruit who doesn't come to Tennessee should be deported to Mexico to help with the illegal alien gap that has expanded across the U.S.
