Wimbledon 2012 Predictions: Novak Djokovic Will Continue His Dominance on Grass

Austin GreenJun 3, 2018

Novak Djokovic may have squandered a chance at history in Paris, but don't expect his French Open troubles to follow him to the grass courts of Wimbledon.

The Serbian made himself at home at the All-England club last year, winning the title and munching a few blades of grass in celebration. I'm expecting a similar performance from Djokovic in this year's tournament, herbivorous dining included.

With the pressure of the "Novak Slam" weighing him down, Djokovic ran out of steam at Roland Garros. But with a few weeks to clear his head, look for a hungry and focused Djoker to run rampant at Wimbledon.

His first match will be Monday against Juan Carlos Ferrero, the 2003 French Open champion who has given Djokovic some trouble in the past. He has beaten the current World No. 1 once before, but that victory came in 2005 when Djokovic was still a teenager.

A lot has changed in the last seven years, and Djokovic should have no problems dispatching the now-32-year-old Ferrero.

After that, Djokovic will cruise past a few more inferior opponents before the inevitable matchups against Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

While Federer is always a threat, especially at Wimbledon, Djokovic made him look old and slow in their meeting at Roland Garros. Although Nadal beat Djokovic in impressive fashion in the subsequent match, he isn't nearly as imposing away from the red clay in Paris.

Djokovic is in the midst of an incredible run, winning four of the last six Grand Slams and three of the last four. Look for him to continue his streak of dominance by defending his Wimbledon title and claiming his sixth career Grand Slam crown.
