England vs. Italy: Midfield Battle Set to Decide Outcome

Optimism has been steadily rising throughout the tournament so far, but can Roy Hodgson lead his charges into what has recently become uncharted territory?

England are, after all, perennial quarterfinalists. It is widely believed that tonight is to be contested by two very even teams, but there is one key area where the result will be decided.

The encounter will be won and lost in midfield, with Andrea Pirlo the main danger to English hopes.

When you can be one of the standout performers among all the class that the Spanish bring to the table, it is clear you have the ability to unlock almost any defence on the planet.

Of course, class is in abundance elsewhere. Which Mario Balotelli will turn up? Can Wayne Rooney get back into the swing of things?

Italy have also placed great pride on defence for many years, while Hodgson's teams are well known for organisation, especially at the back.

However, it will be whoever gets a grip in the centre that will prove triumphant tonight.
