Germany vs. Greece: Die Mannschaft Proves Their Potent Attack Won't Be Stopped

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

Germany is not going to be denied the crown at the 2012 European Championship. This team is loaded, and they are at the top of their game.

There is no other conclusion to be drawn after the Germans' dominant 4-2 win over Greece.

Germany was cruising along at this European Championship. They finished group play a perfect 3-0, and were obviously, along with Spain, the favorites to win it all. However, they had done nothing to distinguish themselves from Spain, or eliminate the thoughts that they could stumble and be upset.

They hadn't won a match by more than a goal, and they hadn't scored more than two goals in any match while playing in their difficult group with Portugal, Netherlands and Denmark.

Free from the "Group of Death," the Germans exploded for four goals and an absolutely dominant performance against Greece in the quarterfinals.

Greece had made it to this point by the strength of their stingy defense. They had allowed just three goals in their three group play matches. The Germans shredded this defense, and in doing so, they showed tinges of being a team of destiny.

Despite their perfect record, Germany coach Joachim Loew tweaked his lineup. Mario Gomez had previously been the lone striker and had scored three goals in that role.

Miroslav Klose was inserted into the starting lineup as part of front-line switches for the game against Greece.

It was a gutsy move, considering the success the other lineup was having, but it paid off in a huge way. Loew proved he had his finger on the pulse of this team, and that he isn't afraid to make a bold move—and those moves are paying off.

There are moments for certain teams where every move they make pays off in a big way, and Germany, right now, is one of those teams. They will soon have a championship to show for it.
