Hey A-Rod, Why Not Write Tom Hicks a Check?

ryan johFeb 11, 2009

I am in the group of people that believes steroids don't have much of an effect on your performance. Alex Rodriguez was, as far as we know, a No. 1 draft pick without them.

Steroids don't help you play the hot corner as well as anyone in the game, or turn double play balls with your eyes closed while in Seattle, and later Texas.

I believe Rodriguez when he says that he did it because of the pressure he was under. When you sign a 10-year deal for $252 million, you better hit over .300 every year. You better have 110-plus RBI and 45-plus home runs. No questions asked.

Even with those numbers expected, everyone will still find a way to tell him he isn't worth the money.

I would compare Alex's contract with Hicks to signing a deal with the devil.

If Rodriguez were making $15 million a year, he would not be the hated athlete that he is by so many today.

Besides, I am sure he would still have an adequate amount of money to survive on that salary.

The question Scott Boras' clients need to starting asking themselves is if all that money is worth the fire? Does Manny Ramirez really need $25 million? Does J.D. Drew deserve $70 million? How about Abreu's number for $5 million? I like Abreu's gig, personally.

One may ask, what is next for "A-Roid"?

How about he donates whatever the Rangers paid him for the years he was on steroids back to them.

Why not? I am sure Rodriguez has plenty of money to last him for the rest of his life.

I think that giving the Rangers a check for $75 million would ease his conscience even more. Hicks demands an extra apology from him for lying to his face. Why not write the guy a check?

Anyone can apologize on ESPN to Peter Gammons and say how sorry he is, but how many people are going to put their money where their mouth is?

Alex has the money. Why not throw the dog a bone?

Sincerely,
