UFC 147 Results: Rony Mariano Bezerra Defeats Godofredo Pepey
In a fight to decide the winner of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil at UFC 147 on Saturday night, Rony Mariano Bezerra defeated Godofredo Pepey to claim his full-time spot on the company’s roster.
With this season being the first of The Ultimate Fighter taped outside of Las Vegas, the excitement over the Brazilian equivalent was through the roof. It did not disappoint. This was a well-fought bout that went to a decision.
Bezerra was an elite fighter throughout the tournament, and his win on Saturday night just proves that he is ready for anything the UFC featherweight division has to offer.
What It Means
This fight proved that UFC is doing this the right way. Not only have they built a feeder system for themselves, they’ve made it so interesting that people want to see these fights almost as much as the veterans.
Bezerra and Pepey are the perfect examples of the quality talents that can be found during these TUF events. As good as Pepey was, this was Bezerra’s time to shine, and he did that.
Now it’s on to featherweight domination.
What’s Next?
After another successful season of The Ultimate Fighter, this proves that this is a great way to find new talent. Add in the fact that now the UFC can do it in other countries will only strengthen their international appeal.
For Bezerra, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. The young Brazilian went 10-3 in his career before joining up with the UFC and The Ultimate Fighter, but now he has the chance to be a star.
On the other hand, Pepey’s loss ruins his undefeated record—but it doesn’t ruin his career. He is still a legitimate fighter, and it wouldn’t shock me to see Dana White hire him to the company despite his loss.
