Denmark vs Germany Euro 2012: Bold Predictions for Group Play Clash

With their place in the next stage of the 2012 European Championship not yet secure, Germany will take down Denmark. 

It won't be easy. This feisty Denmark team is no stranger to pulling off an upset. They roughed up Netherlands in the Euro opener. 

However, this German team is loaded and will be looking to put the hammer down in this match. 

Mario Gomez Will Score

What a tournament Gomez is already having. Germany has three goals and Gomez has scored them all. 

Gomez has a checkered history on the national team and hasn't always lived up to expectations, but he is ready to put those days behind him. He now has 25 goals in 54 games for Germany, and that ratio will continue to improve. 

Gomez has been the heart of this attack and that will continue here. Expect the Danes to focus their defense on him, which will lead to another German finally scoring, but Gomez won't be kept completely off the tally sheet. 

Germany Wins

We've already established that Germany will net at least two goals, and that will be all they need. Denmark does not have the fiercest attack. 

It's not toothless—it has three goals in its two games—but two of those goals came in a loss to Portugal. Scoring in a losing effort against Portugal is not the same as trying to score on Germany. 

Denmark will avoid the shutout with a goal, but that won't be enough. Germany will win 2-1. 

Denmark Advances

From bad news to good news for Denmark; it will advance. Obviously, Denmark will want to win and avoid the mass of tiebreaking points it will fall into if it loses, but that scenario will work out just fine for them. 

If Denmark loses, it will need Netherlands to win, but not by enough to jump them in goal differential. While this is a fairly narrow window, it is one that will stay open if Denmark does only fall by one goal.
