A Massive Upset? WWE No Way Out World Heavyweight Championship Match

Joe De SilvaFeb 10, 2009

As WWE No Way Out comes to pay-per-view live this Sunday from Seattle, Washington you have to wonder about the bizarre World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Match.

If we take a look at the Smackdown side for a brief moment, in their main event match you have Edge, Triple H, The Undertaker, Jeff Hardy, Big Show and Vladimir Kozlov. The majority of those men are main eventers or near to it.

The Raw side is a far different story. We have the reigning champion John Cena, Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio, Mike Knox, Kane, and Chris Jericho. There's no doubt that Cena and Jericho are main eventers, but Kane and Mysterio have been upper mid-carders at best for a number of years now.

Kofi Kingston and Mike Knox?! It seems strange to me that these two men are involved in this match because neither of them have ever been close to a main event type push, yet here they are, suddenly competing for the World Heavyweight Title.

So why is this the case? Could WWE be trying to mix things up a little and maybe push a couple of new guys? Unfortunately I think it's simply a case of everyone else was busy. Shawn Michaels and JBL are tied up in a feud so neither of them can participate, and Randy Orton is feuding with the McMahons. Who else is there? Goldust?

I can definitely see Cena retaining here because it wouldn't make any sense to put it on anyone else. Chris Jericho is the only serious contender here, and you have to wonder if WWE is thinking of capitalizing on his recent fan altercation which has received a huge amount of press coverage.

However, with Jericho seemingly heading for a duel with actor Mickey Rourke, it wouldn't make much sense to give him the title.

I don't think anyone really believes Cena won't leave Seattle as the World Heavyweight Champion, and then more than likely face Randy Orton at Wrestlemania. It's because of this and the lack of buildup for this match that make me want to see Smackdown's Elimination Chamber Match a lot more than this one.
