US Open Golf 2012: Last Minute Info for Final Round at Olympic Club

Patrick ClarkeJun 17, 2012

Tiger Woods set himself up for what will need to be a dramatic finish in Sunday's final round at the 2012 U.S. Open at Olympic Club if he is to win his first major tournament in four years.

Woods shot a five-over 75 in round three to put himself five strokes behind the leaders, tied for 14th with 18 holes left to be played.

Still, don't count out the 14-time major champion just yet.

The red shirt and black pants will surely be on display in San Francisco this Father's Day, as Woods looks to overcome a horrid third round to claim his fourth career U.S. Open championship.

Past Champ Poised to Repeat?

2010 U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell and 2003 U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk are tied for the lead at Olympic heading into the final round. Both golfers have obviously been there before and delivered on one of golf's biggest stages.

In addition to McDowell and Furyk, two-time U.S. Open champion Ernie Els is within striking range, just three strokes back of the lead heading into the final 18. Of course, Tiger Woods last won at the U.S. Open in 2008 at Torrey Pines, so he can't be counted out just yet.

Tiger will be a factor on the final day as the course and some nerves promise to open things up at the top of the leaderboard. Watch for a thrilling final round of golf at Olympic, where a few past champions will be looking to repeat.
