Chelsea Transfer Rumours: Mathieu Debuchy Is Perfect Right-Back for London Club

Bringing Lille defender Mathieu Debuchy to Stamford Bridge would be a tremendous transfer for Chelsea since they must bolster their defense before next season.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants to carry on his summer spending spree - and is ready to snatch France right-back Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle.

Newcastle still hope to get their man, but the Blues are keen to strengthen at Debuchy's position after freeing Jose Bosingwa at the end of the season.

Debuchy is a solid one-on-one defender, but he also excels going forward up the pitch. He would certainly be an upgrade over any of the right-backs that the Blues currently have on their squad.

Debuchy is gaining valuable international experience with France at Euro 2012, because regular starting right-back Bacary Sagna cannot participate in the tournament after suffering an injury during the Premier League season with Arsenal. He's a big reason why France is expected to reach the quarterfinal after drawing against England and defeating Sweden in their first two group matches.

Debuchy is a smart player and a reliable presence at the back. He also has Champions League experience from his time at Lille this season.

Since Chelsea have already signed star forward Eden Hazard from Lille in the transfer window, Debuchy would have a teammate that he knows well right off the bat in England.

Debuchy is a great transfer target for Chelsea, and if he does come to Stamford Bridge, the Frenchman could turn out to be the club's best transfer move of the summer.
