Manchester Transfer News: Rafael Da Silva Signs New Contract for Red Devils
Manchester United defender Rafael Da Silva will not be leaving the club during the summer transfer window after agreeing to a new deal with the Red Devils.

The former Fluminense defender made 12 appearances for United last season.

Speaking through his agent, Cassiano Pereira, Rafael stated that he was delighted to be remaining at Manchester United and playing in Europe's highest competitions.
"Rafael is very happy to be able to stay at Manchester United, who are one of the biggest clubs in football and are always playing in Europe's biggest competitions. Besides, they opened Rafael the doors to Europe, where his qualities are appreciated and where he has earned respect and prestige. Everyone is happy with this renewal...

Despite only recording 12 appearances for the Red Devils, Rafael led the United defense in tackles per game and finished with one of the club's highest average match rating, according to WhoScored.com.
Rafael's overall position play and defensive skills were exposed at times late in the season and was dropped for the more reliable Phil Jones in defense as United sought to chase down City in the Premier League race. However, his attacking abilities are a useful addition for the Red Devils and his defensive stability will continue to mature as he records more playing time.
Manchester United need more stability in its defense next season if the team is going to win back the Premier League from their noisy neighbors. Rafael isn't Leighton Baines and he isn't Jordi Alba, but he is definitely a step in the right direction for the Red Devils.
