Oakland A's: Bats Stay Hot at Home as They Blast Padres 10-2

Clarence Baldwin JrJun 4, 2018

Manny who? About an hour after the news of Manny Ramirez's release was made public, the A's bats busted out in the bottom of the first inning for five runs and they never looked back, beating the San Diego Padres 10-2 in the opener of their three game series. Brandon Moss hit a two run blast to conclude the scoring as the A's bounced back from an early 1-0 deficit to grab a lead they would never relinquish.

Along with Moss, Josh Reddick and Cliff Pennington both drove in two runs with Reddick's two run triple giving the A's the lead in the first inning. Every starter reached a base except Seth Smith, and the A's posted double digit hits as their offense continues to be red hot.

Travis Blackley overcame a shaky start to go six solid innings allowing two runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out three. Evan Scribner pitched three shutout innings for his first save with the A's.

Good: The A's offense. There's no way to just single out someone tonight. The fireworks were supposed to be after the game! Instead, up and down the lineup there was production. Coco Crisp had two hits and a walk leading off. Jemile Weeks walked twice and had an RBI and run scored. Cliff Pennington had three hits and Colin Cowgill had two. Brandon Inge delivered a big situational hit in the first inning to propel the A's. Every one looks good at the plate right now.

Bad: Manny Ramirez. Yes, I am disappointed that he chose to ask for a release. It would have been more than a novelty to see Man-Ram in green and gold. I still think he has something in his tank. But it will not happen as a member of the Athletics. And that's disappointing. All the buildup, signified nothing. Too bad.

Ugly: N/A. Another great performance, no way someone will get this nod.

Riding a four game winning streak, the A's will try to improve up their 30-35 record by sending recently recalled Tyson Ross to the bump against Ross Ohlendorf. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
