Ryback: Why He Could Be the Next Big Star of the WWE
To me, the WWE has gotten a little stale over the last month or so, and I was waiting for them to introduce the next young gun that could come in and make a statement that would leave a lasting impression. There had to be someone who would give the perennial superstars of the WWE a run for their money. Someone who could gain fan support and could look and play the part of champion.
Enter Ryback.
When I first saw him, I thought that someone broke into an NFL lockerroom, took as much HGH as possible and then raided Rob Van Dam's wardrobe and came through the Smackdown tunnel.

It was obvious that he was going to destroy the jobber that they had placed in front of him. But his complete and utter domination stuck with me. It even looked like it impressed the rest of the lockerroom.
I was waiting for the WWE to create a legitimate feud with a known superstar. I didn't expect anyone like John Cena or CM Punk, but someone who would actually give him a good match.
As No Way Out approaches, this has failed to happen. There have been hints that Ryback will compete in a 1 vs 3 handicap match on the PPV, but that still will bring yawns to the crowd. Give the guy shot!
Here are a few reasons why I believe he can be the next big star of the WWE.
The resemblance to Goldberg
I know that people are already sick and tired of the comparisons that Ryback has drawn to Bill Goldberg. But coming from someone who grew up idolizing the WCW growing up, and originally turned to the WWE when Goldberg made his debut, I can see the similarities.
People are afraid that Ryback doesn't have the microphone skills that it takes to become a WWE Champion, or atleast somebody that is relevant on a weekly basis, but this was the main concern for Goldberg as well.
I don't think the WWE should plan to have Ryback go on half the streak that Goldberg did when he entered the circuit, but they need to have a legitimate plan, as him destroying jobber after jobber has gotten quite stale and old.
The bald head, the utter dominance, the terrifying physique, and the look of terror in his eyes all resemble one of the all time greats.
His size gives him unlimited possibilities for a legitimate feud
If Rey Mysterio, Jr. can win a WWE Championship, then Ryback should be given a shot to come through the ranks just due to his size and tenacity in the ring. He isn't just a jacked guy who doesn't have any experience in the ring.
Ryback was a contestant on Tough Enough and has been in many other wrestling federations before coming to the WWE. He was most famously on the NXT tour as Skip Sheffield.
Anyway, you can stack Ryback up next to any superstar in the WWE and just by first sight it would appear to be a legitimate feud and would be easy to sell. All I can imagine is the roar of the crowd as he finds a way to put the Big Show on his back and land his signature finisher.
The Powerful Reaction from the Fans
Ryback recently made his debut on Monday Night Raw, and the WWE made a subtle gesture that proves to me that they are building him up quite slowly. What was the subtle gesture? When he came down the runway he did his downward thrust with his arm and the rockets went off.
Something that little hinted that he is making a name for himself in the organization. And although I think his Mortal Combat call "Finish Him" is as cliche as it gets, it is something that the fans in the arena can have some fun with.
I think many fans will agree when I say that the WWE is in need of the next big thing with many of the older superstars acts getting old. CM Punk has done a fantastic job in my opinion as the current champion, but Ryback should, and can be the next big star.
