Kevin Kolb and the Worst Starting Players in the NFL

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

The Kevin Kolb experiment was a disaster for the Arizona Cardinals in 2011. Kolb struggled at the season's outset, got injured, then lost his job to John Skelton after suffering a concussion.

Call it the start of a $65 million nightmare.

There's no telling if Kolb will even be named the Cards starter in 2012, but if he does, he'll be one of the worst starters in the NFL

Don't worry, Kevin, you aren't alone.

Kevin Kolb, QB, Arizona Cardinals

1 of 4

In terms of starting quarterbacks, there may not be a more unaccomplished name than Kevin Kolb. He has 20 career touchdowns with 22 interceptions and has dealt with a slew of injuries during his first five years in the NFL.

In fact, the nine games he played in 2011 with Arizona were the most he's played in one season thus far.

While he flashed brilliance in a few games for the Eagles, he's yet to sustain any success as a professional.

Kolb has the skill set, but it's a matter of him becoming mentally sharper when reading defenses and staying off the injury list.

Levi Brown, OT, Arizona Cardinals

Although ProFootballFocus.com had Brown only allowing one sack and eight quarterback hurries in his last six games, he's one of the most victimized left tackles in the game.

To the surprise of many, he was re-signed by Arizona this offseason and will most likely be manning the left tackle position in 2012.

The Cardinals have allowed a ridiculous 104 sacks over the last two years, and although not all of these were due to poor blocking by Brown himself, he's been far from reliable as the team's blindside protector.

Wayne Hunter, RT, New York Jets

Wayne Hunter didn't have the best year in 2011.

That's being kind.

He wasn't a formidable run-blocker, and many edge-rushers had their way with him on their way to quarterback Mark Sanchez

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, the 30-year-old Hunter allowed a whopping 11 sacks and a nearly unfathomable 32 quarterback pressures last season.

Yikes.

Blaine Gabbert, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars

4 of 4

Kolb has a partner in terms of really bad starting quarterbacks.

His name?

Blaine Gabbert.

To be fair to the 2011 first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, he wasn't exactly throwing to Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald or Wes Welker last season.

However, Gabbert was thoroughly disappointing in all aspects of playing the quarterback position during his rookie year.

He barely completed over 50 percent of his passes, and threw for 2,214 yards with 12 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 65.4 quarterback rating.

Although Chad Henne was acquired in free agency, Gabbert has a legitimate chance to start again in 2012 in hopes of improving those atrocious numbers.
