U.S. Open 2012 Pairings: Complete Listing of Round 1 Pairings

Jesse ReedJun 7, 2018

The 2012 U.S. Open begins on Thursday, June 14, 2012, and there are some awesome pairings set up for Round 1 to get the tournament going.

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson will hit the links as the premier group for the first couple of rounds. The galleries that are sure to follow that trio will be massive, and it will be interesting to see how Watson fares against two of golf's legends.

Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Luke Donald will be paired together—the top three golfers in the world, according to the Official World Golf Rankings—and the UK trio represent the best chance for a non-American to win the U.S. Open this year.

The Olympic Club and the USGA have conjured up a special treat for these guys this week: Hole No. 16 will play at 670 yards—the longest hole in U.S. Open history. Players will be hitting long irons into the green on their third shot, and as a result, par-five will be an excellent score.

The course is in perfect condition, though, and there are sure to be a few golfers to post low rounds in the first couple of days. The tournament is set to provide us with plenty of excitement and drama, and I can't wait for the first golfers to tee off early Thursday morning.
