Portugal vs. Holland Euro 2012: Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Kyle NewportJun 7, 2018

Portugal and Holland play in the final game of Euro 2012's Group B on Sunday at Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv.

Both teams will play later today looking to rebound from losses, but Sunday's game appears to be a must-win for each team.

In their first Euro 2012 game, Portugal lost against Germany, 1-0. A second-half goal put Portugal into a deficit not only in that game but in their group.

In their second game, Portugal took a 2-0 first half lead over Denmark before letting it slip away. It looked like they were just about to be done until Varela saved them with a goal in the 87th minute.

With a win and a German victory over Denmark on Sunday, Portugal will advance through to the next round.

In a shocking result, the Netherlands lost their opening game, 1-0. Denmark scored a goal early in the game and pulled off a huge "Group of Death" upset. The loss put the Netherlands in a tough spot, and they needed to win their final two games to have a chance of advancing.

Mario Gomez put the Germans up with a pair of first half goals. The Netherlands put themselves in an early hole and could not recover. They helped their cause by cutting the deficit to one and improving their goal differential.

Now they must beat Portugal and hope Germany beats Denmark. Even if a three-way tie occurs, they will need to have a better goal differential than Portugal and Denmark.

Before the tournament started, the Netherlands were one of the favorites to win it all. Now their run in the Euro 2012 is all but done.

The Portugal vs. Netherlands game will have the most intrigue of any in this group, and a possible winner-takes-all scenario would be great to watch.

Portugal X-Factor

Who else? Cristiano Ronaldo has to step up in the final two games and lead Portugal out of group play. If he performs the way he did against Germany and Denmark, it will be difficult for Portugal to beat the Netherlands. He has the ability to carry his team, but Portugal needs him to use his talents. He had a golden opportunity up in the Denmark game to put the Danes away but failed to score one-on-one with the goalie. His teammates picked him up, and Portugal ended up getting the win.

Holland X-Factor

Robin van Persie needs to play like a star in order for the Netherlands to make an improbable run through Group B. He brought his team to within a goal in the second half against Germany. His second-half goal could prove big if the Netherlands ends up in a three-way tie.

After a disappointing World Cup performance, he needs to make some plays and find the back of the net. The Netherlands are a good all-around team, but van Persie could give the team a boost.

Prediction

This game has lost some intrigue with the Netherlands coming into this game needing help in order to advance. Portugal gained some momentum when they scored late to beat Denmark. If they had entered tied in the standings, this game could have been a classic.

The Netherlands play great as a team and have played in high-pressure games before. The men in orange have a daunting task ahead of them, but they can make it interesting. Portugal has Ronaldo, but he has not shown up to this point in the tournament.

I will take the better overall team, the Netherlands, over Portugal. The Netherlands still have a slight chance to advance in the Euro 2012, and they will come prepared to play. With Germany facing Denmark, the Dutch know they could move on with an offensive outburst.
