WWE No Way Out: 10 Things to Know About the Triple-Threat Match

Sebastian MaldonadoJun 7, 2018

This Sunday’s No Way Out marks an intriguing situation for WWE Champion CM Punk.

Punk, who will defend the title in a triple threat match against Daniel Bryan and Kane, is in grave danger of losing the title to either man.

It does not look good for the champion, especially since both challengers are hungry for the win.  However, other factors will play into this title match.

Here are 10 things to know about this triple threat match for the WWE Championship.

10. One Fall to a Finish

1 of 10

The triple threat match will end when one wrestler beats another by either pin fall or submission.  This means one wrestler will not be involved in the final decision.

Punk can lose the title without being pinned or submitted.  What if Bryan beats Kane or vice versa?

The odds are stacked against the champion.  If Punk loses the title, he’ll surely get his one-on-one rematch.  However, neither opponent will easily surrender the WWE title.

9. Submission Specialists vs. Kane

2 of 10

WWE’s last pay-per-view, Over the Limit, featured a battle of submissions: CM Punk’s Anaconda Vise vs. Daniel Bryan’s Yes Lock.

Kane enters the mix against two submission specialists without a move of his own.  In fact, Kane has rarely tapped out to any submission.

Can either Punk or Bryan make the Big Red Machine tap out on Sunday?  It seems impossible to make Kane submit, but anything could happen.  Are they capable of a submission victory?

8. Prestigious Triple Threat

3 of 10

These three men have held many championships in their WWE careers. Kane holds the most championships with nine.

Kane has held all three heavyweight title belts in the WWE, including the WWE title, the World Heavyweight title and the now-defunct ECW Title.  He’s also held the tag team title on four separate occasions.  Kane is also a former Intercontinental Champion and Hardcore Champion (now-defunct).

CM Punk accomplished the same feat as Kane—holding all three heavyweight titles in his WWE career.  He’s a three-time World Heavyweight Champion and two-time WWE Champion, and he also held the ECW Title—his first in the WWE.  Punk has also held the Intercontinental and World Tag Titles.

Daniel Bryan is the former World Heavyweight Champion as well as a former United States Champion.

All three men won the Money In The Bank match and became champions after cashing in on their title shots.  Punk is the only one to have become World Heavyweight Champion twice.

7. How Kane Snuck His Way into This Match by Accident

4 of 10

It was supposed to be a rematch between Punk and Bryan.  Coincidentally, both tried to use Kane as an example.

Both men managed to get disqualified in one-on-one matches before Kane was added to the triple threat match.  After looking impressive in these singles matches, Kane earned his title shot.

Kane’s participation provides new intrigue in Sunday’s WWE Title bout.

6. A Motivated Bryan

5 of 10

Ever since Bryan lost the World Title to Sheamus at Wrestlemania 28, a different Daniel Bryan has emerged.

He’s been more determined and exactly what fans expected to see from him—like his days in the independent circuit.  Bryan is more focused on becoming champion again.

Despite losing to Sheamus at Extreme Rules and to CM Punk last month, Bryan has become a force to be reckoned with.

5. AJ, the Wild Card

6 of 10

AJ began her relationship with Daniel Bryan last year.  After Bryan lost the title at Wrestlemania, he dumped her on Smackdown.

AJ slowly began her “crazy” phase. Then, last month she started developing a crush on CM Punk.  While he has kept her at a distance, she has become enamored with Punk.

Whose side is AJ really on?  Could she really want Punk to win? Is she getting back together with Bryan?  Could she even be teaming up with Kane?

Regardless, AJ could be a huge factor in CM Punk losing the WWE Title.

4. Punk’s History with Bryan and Kane

7 of 10

Punk and Bryan have fought each other all over the world, including their time with Ring of Honor wrestling and even in the independents. They know each other very well.

Punk and Kane also have history, and it involves Money In The Bank.  Kane almost won Money In The Bank at Wrestlemania 25, but Punk stopped him and took the prize.

Kane got his revenge at Backlash, defeating Punk.  This marks the first time in three years that these two men will fight each other at a pay-per-view.

3. Kane’s One Day Reign

8 of 10

Kane won the WWE title from Stone Cold Steve Austin in June of 1998 amid controversy and lost the belt back to Austin the next day on RAW.

This was Kane’s only reign, which is one of the shortest reigns for a WWE title holder.

Kane will use this as motivation.  He will seize this opportunity to not only capture the title but also hopefully have a longer reign this time.

2. Over the Limit

9 of 10

Bryan and Punk fought in a wrestling classic last month, with Punk gaining the upper hand.

However, Bryan made Punk tap out after the three count was made.  Punk reversed the Yes Lock and gained leverage while making the pin.  But Bryan held on and made Punk tap one second too late.

This is why Bryan is still in the title hunt.  He is using Over the Limit as his motivation to become the WWE Champion for the first time in his career.

He’s already made the champ tap.  In his mind, Daniel Bryan is the WWE Champion.

1. CM Punk’s Quiet Title Reign

10 of 10

CM Punk has had quite the title reign.

He’s been WWE Champion since Survivor Series, making Alberto Del Rio tap out to the Anaconda Vise.  Since then, Punk has held on to his title while taking on all comers.

Time could be running out for CM Punk.  He is taking on two former world champions who want to be The Man again.  He also could run into trouble with unpredictable x-factors, namely AJ.

This Sunday, his seven-month reign could come to an end.  It could truly be no way out for CM Punk.
