Pacquiao vs. Bradley Judges: Corruption Theories Make Rematch a Must

Steven CookJun 7, 2018

In what has been pegged as the worst boxing decision ever by some of the sport's most well-known analysts, Manny Pacquiao's fight with the undefeated Timothy Bradley begs for a rematch.

Pacquiao clearly won the fight, and did so in compelling fashion. After looking lethargic at times in his last few fights over recent years, Pacquiao seemed to have his game and his swagger back during his bout with Bradley.

There were whispers that Pacquiao should look toward retirement if he fell to Bradley in Saturday's showdown, but given the way the fight panned out, this would be a travesty.

Pacquiao still has a date with Floyd Mayweather in what would be a bout between boxing's two greatest active forces, but it can be put on hold until Pacquiao finishes some business that he's been forced to handle with Bradley.

Pacquiao is contractually able to demand a rematch with Bradley, but it's unclear whether or not Pacquiao's side would be willing to do so. His promoter, Bob Arum, has heard some less-than-stellar feedback about the idea, from Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times

"

"The brokers are telling us if we make a Bradley rematch, no one will go," Arum said.

"

When Manny Pacquiao is in the ring, people will go.

When his legacy is on the line, people will go.

When he's still the most popular name in boxing that isn't synonymous with jail time, people will go.

When he's got a chance to redeem his first loss in seven years, people will go.

Aside from a Pacquiao-Mayweather bout, this is the best fight that boxing could see right now. And with Mayweather preparing for a jail sentence that will keep him from being Pacquiao's next natural foe, this should be the way each side wants to go.

Bradley's side may have won and he may still be undefeated, but his pride undoubtedly has taken a hit with the uproar over Pacquiao's decided loss. He will want to prove that he deserved this win, and that he can fight even better in the next go-around.

Pacquiao lost his belt, and a chance to get it back against an opponent whom he now knows much better and knows he can dominate should be enticing to the Filipino star.

Make it happen, Manny. For boxing, for Bradley, but most importantly, for yourself.
