"Major League Baseball and the players union issued statements Saturday, refusing to confirm or deny the report on Rodriguez, citing player confidentiality.
Scott Boras, Rodriguezโs agent, said Saturday that Rodriguez was out of the country but would issue a response โas we go forward.โ SI.com reported that, when it asked for comment, Rodriguez said: โYouโll have to talk to the union.โ

and along with thatโฆBrian Bruney backs A-Rod:
"While the teamโs front office had nothing to say about Sports Illustratedโs report that A-Rod failed a drug test in 2003, Yankees reliever Brian Bruney threw all of his support behind his teammate.
โWeโre all very supportive of all our teammates,โ Bruney said. โAlex has no reason to do anything like that. Iโve seen firsthand, as Iโm sure everyone has, how hard Alex works. I donโt believe it. Thatโs where I stand. I honestly donโt believe it.โ
Bruney said the SI report, which cited four anonymous sources, had โno backbone,โ and until he heard who was making the claims, he chooses not to believe the story.
โItโs unfortunate that something like this comes out with no backbone on it,โ Bruney said. โAlex, honestly, is the hardest worker Iโve ever seen in any sport.
"Itโs pretty impressive to see how he works and takes care of himself, what he eats. Heโs kind of like a robot. He already is the best player to ever play this game, in my opinion, and he would have no reason to do anything like that.โ
