Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Latest Odds on Possible 2013 Super-Fight

Brian MaziqueJun 9, 2012

The Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao super-fight is still alive, albeit on life support, but Timothy Bradley could pull the plug tonight.

If Bradley upsets Pacquiao, as I have predicted he will, Pacquiao's immediate plans and focus will have to shift to a rematch. This has already been negotiated, and it would undoubtedly be the next fight for both men.

Pacquiao could also elect to retire at this point, as Freddie Roach has said he would advise Pac-Man to do in this type of scenario.

Even if Pacquiao wins, the super-fight isn't guaranteed.

As Floyd Mayweather Jr. is serving a prison sentence, and Manny Pacquiao entertains retirement, religion and politics, things have begun to look grim for the super-fight.

Beyond the fighters' issues outside of the ring, the fact remains that both are getting older. The super-fight is only super if both men are in their primes, or at least competing at a high level.

In boxing, fighters can get old overnight. If that happens to either fighter before they clash, then the super-fight isn't so super any more.

Manny hasn't exactly shined in his past three bouts, and he's 33 years old. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary to see him start to show a rapid decline. In fact, that thought is a major part of what I based my prediction on.

Mayweather is 35 years old and enduring a prison sentence. Some may say it's only 90 days and that he can take it, blah, blah, blah.

That may be the case, but it isn't preposterous to think that this ordeal could negatively impact Mayweather's career. Both fighters are in the midst of issues, distractions and inevitable impediments.

These things threaten their careers, quality of performance and, thus, the chances of a super-fight.

In my opinion, things aren't looking good on this front.
