Finding Love One Sunny Summer Day!

Thomas MorelandFeb 8, 2009

I didn't sleep well last night. Probably the anticipation of the big day ahead.

We made contact on the Internet. She works on a drilling rig in Canada as a medic.

Her boss gave her a website to go on for singles, and she got on the wrong site and somehow clicked on my profile.

I saw a person looked at my profile and jokingly sent a message to her, your coming to Florida? Well hi, nice to meet you.

I got a reply the next day, stating nice to meet you, and that's how we got started talking. It's been a couple months now, and today's the day.

The sun is peeking through the curtains. I hear the dogs click clacking up and down the hallway, waiting to be let out. It's 7:38 am and it feels like it's 84 degree's outside already.

I had won the tickets in a radio station giveaway and have liked the Yankees since i read this story a girl wrote on a website this winter. The story brought tears to my eyes and i decided to root for the Yankees this season, as kind of a tribute to the writer.

The Tampa Bay Rays were playing the Yankees at 4:30 at Tropicana Field up in Tampa and she was flying in from Canada at 1:30 pm. Seemed like a good idea to take her somewhere fun.

I got up and took a shower, letting the warm water hit me in the face, and feeling very very good about the day.

The Mustang looks good, all polished and  clean. She will love this car, I thought. I work all day, and I hope she does not get too many speeding tickets.

I'm going to stop at Denny's and get a Grand Slam breakfast. That sounds good, I thought to myself, as the trip began.

The radio blared Sweet Child O Mine as I hit the I-75, and i flipped back and forth from station to station.

I put it on the country station and Kid Rock started singing about smoking funny things, making love next to the lake, drinking whiskey by the bottle, never thinking bout tomorrow, singing Sweet Home Alabama, all summer long.

All summer long is a good thing, I thought, buzzing up the interstate.

Denny's was crowded and the waitress smiled, taking my order and feeling my good mood, asked me where i was headed? I smiled and said the airport to pick up my new girlfriend, then a baseball game.

The airport was crowded and i waited in the loading zone. The cab drivers all looked like they were from war torn countries in the Middle East or Africa. Sweat rolled down their foreheads as they listened to overweight people saying be careful with that bag.

I wonder if this was the life they dreamed of in the USA , when they left their homes and families for a better life. Welcome to reality, i thought.

She came walking down the sidewalk suddenly and a smile of recognition came upon her face. Hey, beautiful i said, and boom, finally we met. We have talked for days and days over the phone, and on line.

We both had crappy marriages and were searching for  someone, to start over with. It's a miracle she picked me out of thousands of people on websites and gravitated to my profile. I thought of her as an angel in disguise, and now she was in my arms.

We both stared into each other eyes, and smiled, knowing a journey was finally over.

Her lips were very soft, and we kissed for the first time, forgetting about the noise, the people and everything around us.

We got her bags in order and took off to the game, holding hands all the way.

C.C. Sabathia pitched a two hitter and Mark Teixeira hit a home run, as the Yankees won 3-0. Judy had never been to a baseball game and it was a blast rooting for the Yankees, with all the other New York transplants living in Florida.

On  the way back home, we talked about how much more interesting baseball games were when you are there live ,as opposed to television, where the action seems slower.

She was from Canada, and liked Hockey, but was not really a fanatic about sports.  Wait til football season starts, i was thinking. She will hate how much time i spend on the damn computer.

We got home from the game  and the rest is history. She stopped working on drilling rigs in Canada, and found a job in a doctor's office . We will grow old together, and the Internet helped two people find happiness in this ever crowded world.

We still go to a baseball game every year to celebrate our meeting and i always think of the story i read that lonely winter. That girl was a hell of a writer!
