Belmont Stakes 2012 Post Positions: Which Long Shots Got a Boost from the Draw?
The 2012 Belmont Stakes post draw took place on Wednesday and a number of horses immediately moved up in odds upon drawing a good post position.
When I’ll Have Another bowed out of the race yesterday, these long shots were given even better odds to win the Triple Crown race.
With the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner out of contention, it’s extremely hard to predict who will break out and win in Elmont, N.Y.
Let’s take a look at a few dark horses with a legit chance to cross the finish line in first place.

No. 1 - Street Life (8/1)
Street Life opened much higher than this, but has gradually gone down as people realize he’s a winner and has a great post position.
There is no doubting that he has the stamina to go the one-and-a-half mile race at a good pace and there may be some hidden breakaway speed as well.
No. 10 - Optimizer (15/1)
Optimizer has been raced in both the Preakness and Kentucky Derby, so you know he’s quite experienced. He didn’t do the best at either Triple Crown race, but he also doesn’t have to deal with the winner or runner-up from those races either.
He’s a good long shot if you think know-how will be rewarded over fresh legs.
No. 12 - My Adonis (15/1)
Adonis was supposed to enter the Kentucky Derby, but bowed out at the last moment. He jumped into the Belmont field at the last second and actually has a decent shot to win it now.
It would not surprise me if this horse shocks the world and comes from the far outside to make a late surge and win it late.
