Belmont Stakes 2012 Post Positions: Updated Odds with Positions Revealed
The odds for the 2012 Belmont Stakes have been adjusted due to I'll Have Another's devastating injury.
Post-injury odds look like this, according to thespread.com.
| Post Position | Horse | Odds |
| 1 | Street Life | 8-1 |
| 2 | Unstoppable U | 20-1 |
| 3 | Union Rags | 3-1 |
| 4 | Atigun | 20-1 |
| 5 | Dullahan | 5-2 |
| 6 | Ravelo's Boy | 40-1 |
| 7 | Five Sixteen | 40-1 |
| 8 | Guyana Star Dweej | 40-1 |
| 9 | Paynter | 5-1 |
| 10 | Optimizer | 15-1 |
| 11 | I'll Have Another | Scratched |
| 12 | My Adonis | 15-1 |
The situation remains relatively the same despite the shattered Triple Crown dreams.
Dullahan and Union Rags are the two new favorites, but both were already considered very dangerous threats to I'll Have Another before the injury.
Under-the-radar colts, like Street Life and Paynter, are their biggest competition.
Long-shot horses are the same. Guyana Star Dweej, Five Sixteen and Ravelo's Boy are still the race's dimmest hopes.
Dullahan and Union Rags will benefit from favorable post positions and endure Belmont's one-and-a-half mile trek. Expect both horses to finish at, or near, the front of the pack.
Belmont's length provides problems for even the most talented horses. The track's length eliminates most of the importance, and relevance, behind post positions. Each horse will have ample time to make their mad dash.
The odds have been adjusted to fit I'll Have Another's absence. Now, we have to hope for a race big enough to fill the Triple-Crown-sized void on Saturday.
