Pacquiao vs. Bradley: Latest Pre-Weigh in Buzz for Historic Fight

Adam WellsJun 1, 2018

While there is still one day to go before Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley lock horns inside the ring, today brings with it the much-anticipated weigh-in between the two.

Seeing two men weigh-in for a fight usually isn't the most compelling television, but the inevitable staredown afterwards has a chance to get pretty animated. Bradley might be looking to make a name for himself prior to the fight, so be on the lookout for his body language tonight.

As a way to get you fully prepared for tonight's festivities, here is the latest buzz making its way around the Internet regarding Pacquiao and Bradley.

Timothy Bradley Not Worried About Headbutts

One big problem fans have with the way Bradley fights is the number of times he has used his head as a weapon. He has been grilled on the subject leading up to this fight, but doesn't see it as being a big problem anymore.

"

'I keep that chin tucked, and where is that head? Straight down the middle,' Bradley said. 'When these guys come in and try to hold me, I'm right there. Boom.

'I'll tell you something, we've been really focusing on not allowing the heads to clash. We've been working on throwing our shots before we step in. I don't want any damn excuses at the end of the night after I whoop that butt.'

"

I like his excuse in the first paragraph, before admitting that it is something they have tried to work on all camp. If there isn't a problem, what are you trying to fix?

Perhaps he knows that an inadvertent headbutt to Pacquiao could do serious long-term damage, and Top Rank would drop him in a heartbeat if he ruined their golden goose.

Manny Pacquiao Is A New Man, Just Not In The Ring

Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated wrote a piece on Pacquiao's transformation from a self-described "immoral man" into the religious man that we see and hear about on a near-daily basis.

Mannix also writes that just because Pacquiao has a new perspective on life, don't expect him to be any different when he steps in the ring.

"

Said his promoter, Bob Arum, 'From somebody who has visited the training camp a few times, the difference in Manny's face is so apparent. He's not as tired as he was and he's not as worn as he was. There is a glow in his face. I think this religious awakening has been all good on his part. I am a little prejudiced because I am religious myself but I believe when young athletes find religion it will greatly enhance their careers.'

"

A more focused, enlightened Pacquiao could be the last thing that Bradley wants to face. The young challenger for the WBO welterweight title already comes into this fight as someone who did not deserve this spot.

If Pacquiao really is as focused and intense in this fight as everyone insists, the feeling Bradley didn't belong here will be validated.

Pacquiao and Bradley Show Their Lighter Side

The week leading up to a fight can be hectic for a boxer, so it is best to inject some humor into the proceedings. Bradley elicited some laughs at the press conference on Wednesday, when he held up a fake ticket for Pacquiao vs. Bradley II in November.

Bradley also looked at his wife and said (via New York Daily News):

"

'Here baby, I want you to have the first ticket,' Bradley said to his wife as can on stage to take the ticket. 'I’m ready to shock the world. I’m ready to do anything I need to do to win. I’m ready to go to war.'

"

Bradley is going to need every bit of that confidence/arrogance/humor/whatever you want to call it on Saturday night. This is a challenge the likes of which he has never faced. He is just 28 years old and beginning to scratch the surface of his potential.

Pacquiao, while not pulling a stunt of his own, was able to chuckle at the fake ticket, probably because he knows it will never happen.
