Milwaukee Brewers News

Right Field BleachersFeb 7, 2009

Not much is happening with our Brewers this weekend, but pitchers and catchers report less than a week from now. Here’s some tidbits to wet your whistle.

  • Ray Durham hasn’t garnered so much as an offer to play in 2009 and may retire: Durham has enjoyed a pretty good career and could have something left in the tank. I wish him luck in finding work. Tom Haudricourt weighs in on Durham too.
  • Haudricourt also has a rather pessimistic post (no way!) about the “motley crew” that remains in the free agent pitching class: The list looks pretty rough apart from projects like Mark Mulder, or farewell tours of Jon Lieber/Kenny Rogers.

Between the upside and depth presented by both Chase Wright and Chris Capuano, I’d kind of just prefer Milwaukee stand pat before signing some washed up hack for the sake of his name.

  • Speaking of Chris Capuano, Right Field Bleachers proudly sponsors his Baseball-Reference player page: I use Baseball-Reference multiple times a day, and you should too. Track his return to greatness there—and then go here.

  • Happy Birthday to new Brewer Sebern “Chase” Wright, who turns 26 Sunday: I found out his name was Sebern via Baseball-Reference. See!

  • The Dodgers inked pitcher Randy Wolf to a  1-year/$5M deal: Bernie’s Crew wonders if the $6M allocated to sign Trevor Hoffman would’ve been better served with Wolf. I’d imagine Wolf gave L.A. a discount because he seemed to favor the West Coast.  Even in his aged form, I’d prefer Hoffman over the left-handed Jeff Suppan.

  • It’s Seth McClung ’s turn on the Brewers Advent Calendar over at Brew Crew Ball.
