Belmont Stakes 2012 Post Positions: I'll Have Another Will Make 11 Lucky Number

Brian MaziqueJun 7, 2018

Nothing can stop I'll Have Another from becoming horse racing's 12th Triple Crown winner, and securing post position 11 helps to further cement his inevitable place in history. The starting spots were announced this morning for the 2012 Belmont Stakes in New York, and I'll Have Another's handlers should be smiling.

He's an exceptional closer and the best spot for a horse like him is on the outside. He'll have only one horse outside of him at the Belmont Stakes, and that's 20-1 underdog My Adonis.

I'll Have Another should have ample space to run his best race. Jockey Mario Gutierrez will be able to assess the mile-and-a-half track and pick his spots to push his colt, as he has done both in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.

Take another look at his spectacular closing ability displayed at the Preakness:

The updated odds per the Belmont Stakes has I'll Have Another at 4-5, as of the announcement of his post position 11.

In my opinion, the horse that poses the biggest threat is Dullahan, but he has been smashed in the middle of the field at No. 5. It is quite possible his start may be impeded drastically by the intensity of the crowd at the start of the race.

The table couldn't be set better for I'll Have Another, to have another amazing race. By the end of the day on June 9, I expect to hear his name uttered with the likes of Affirmed and Secretariat, as one of the greatest horses in the history of the sport.
