UFC on FX 3: Who Will Win the Fight Night Bonuses?
UFC on FX 3 promises to provide fireworks, that much is certain. This will make fight night bonuses extremely difficult to pick, as it could be a number of fights and finishes potentially taking home some extra money.
Headlined by a rematch between Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson, Friday looks to be a great night of fights for the UFC. From the top to the bottom, the entire card may not have "star power," but it definitely provides a number of guys who will bring their "A game" to the Octagon.
Although it's a tough task, here are my predictions to win the fight night bonuses.
Submission of the Night: Seth Baczynski
1 of 3In all honesty, I don't see many, if any, of these fights ending in submission. I think most of the finishes on the card will end by knockout or referee stoppage from strikes.
With that in mind, a guy that could take advantage of a submission after rocking his opponent would be Seth Baczynski. His first two UFC victories have come by submission, choking out Clay Harvison and Matt Brown.
Now, I understand their are better submission artists on the card, but I believe those fighters will either lose or fight to decisions. Baczynski on the other hand is aggressive, as is his opponent Lance Benoist.
Baczynski will clip Benoist on the feet, follow him to the ground and crank in a rear-naked choke, taking home the Submission of the Night.
Runner-up: Caio Magalhaes
Knockout of the Night: Erick Silva
2 of 3There will be a number of Knockout of the Night contenders on Friday, but Erick Silva takes the narrow edge. Silva just beat out Leonard Garcia, who in my opinion, will get his first stoppage victory since 2008 against Jens Pulver.
Silva has proven power. In two outings, he has spent just over a minute in the Octagon combined, bull-rushing through opponents with his sickening power. One ended in disqualification, but that was quite controversial and many thought it was the wrong decision.
Charlie Brenneman will be tough to finish, but it has been done. Silva has the raw power and technique to put Brenneman to sleep and earn the Knockout of the Night bonus.
Runner-up: Leonard Garcia
Fight of the Night: Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall
3 of 3The Fight of the Night is a no-brainer in my mind. The main event is a rematch of the Fight of the Night at UFC on FX 2, where Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson had their first battle.
The two fought a great back-and-forth fight the first time around, so why should anything be different here? The same stipulation is on the line, as the winner will fight for the UFC Flyweight title against Joseph Benavidez.
Both are extremely well-rounded, so it makes the fight a human chess match. It should be a delight to watch and is a great choice for a main event on this card.
Runner-up: Eddie Wineland vs. Scott Jorgensen
