Alex Rodriguez Loses His Last Redeeming Quality

Sean CroweFeb 7, 2009

I’m wondering what the few defenders of Alex Rodriguez are going to say now.

He’s a terrible teammate. His teammates in Texas hated him. His teammates in New York think he’s a fraud. Every time Derek Jeter is forced to utter A-Rod’s name, he makes a face like a guy who just bit into a raw onion.

The dude is disliked. By everyone.

He cheated on his wife with multiple strippers. Manly strippers as well, if you believe the rumors.

He cheated on his wife with the fake-British cesspool that is Madonna. Now he follows her around like a puppy dog while his ex-wife sits at home trying to figure out where it all went wrong. Or how to spend A-Rod’s money. Either way.

He was born in the United States. Raised in the United States. But because the Dominican Republic has a better chance of winning the WBC, he’s going to play for them. The same reason, coincidentally, why he wanted to play for either the Yankees or Red Sox.

He knows he can’t win a championship without a ton of help. If he’s “the guy” he’s going to fail. He knows it. We know it. In the regular season, he’s a cross between Babe Ruth and Pete Rose. In the post-season, and in big games, he’s a cross between Bill Bergen and Doc Bushong.

When asked about his performance in the 2004 disaster against the Boston Red Sox, A-Rod allowed his agent to claim it was all Mariano Rivera’s fault. He never came out against what his agent said. He never took responsibility.

If A-Rod fails, throw his teammates under the bus!

He’s the best player in baseball, damn it.

He opted out of a ridiculous contract because he thought he could get more money. When he found out he couldn’t, he came crawling back to the Yankees. Yet was STILL given a $275 million contract.

Only increasing his ridiculously over-inflated sense of self worth.

Way to go Hank.

But A-Rod always had one redeeming quality: He was never a part of the steroid discussion.

A-Rod was a jerk, but a clean jerk. He was the guy who was eventually going to take the home run title away from Barry Bonds. We dealt with all of those other things because, between him and Bonds, he was the lesser (and cleaner) of two evils…

Here I was, thinking that his head growing over the years was caused by his massive ego. I guess not.

A-Rod, congratulations.

You are officially the most despicable human being in professional sports. You have done the impossible and surpassed Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and the guy who put that 19 year old pitcher into the little league world series.

If the Yankees had any balls they’d cut you loose.

If the rest of baseball had any balls, nobody would sign you once they did.

They’d boycott your sorry ass and make sure you never, ever take the home run record from Bonds. They’d save that feat for someone they knew was clean. Someone who wasn’t a despicable piece of trash.

Someone who isn’t you.
