A-Rod, How Could You? Bad News for the Yankees Star

This morning when I woke up, I turned on the computer and found some of the worst news I have seen since the Yankees missed the playoffs.

Our star player, Alex Rodriguez tested positive for anabolic steroids.

I was devastated. Jose Canseco claimed he used steroids, but I would have never believed him. I'm sad to say that if this news is right, another one of baseball's best will get rocked by the steroid era and another legendary player will be tarnished.

At a time when many players have been tried for steroids, back in 2003 when A-Rod allegedly tested positive he had 47 HR's, 118 RBI's and an AL MVP award with the Texas Rangers.

In 2007, when A-Rod was on 60 Minutes, he was asked by Katie Couric: "For the record, have you ever used steroids, human growth hormone or any other performance-enhancing substance?" Couric asked.

A-Rod replied no.

Many like to think that Alex Rodrigiuez will one day reach 800 home runs and shatter the record currently held by Barry Bonds. He was the youngest player to reach 500 home runs.

But if A-Rod surpasses Bonds will we need to put an asterik next to his name like we would like to do with Barry Bonds? I don't know.

I hoped that the clean A-Rod would surpass the steroid-using Bonds but now A-Rod is just another person to use steroids.

I wouldn't mind if we asterisked A-Rod and Bonds and let Hank Aaron hold the crown again because we know for a fact that Aaron didn't use performance-enhancing drugs.

It seems that many on the home run list have been accused of steroids or tested positive at some time. Bonds, Sosa, McGuire, Palmerio and now A-Rod.

It's very disappointing and saddening that steroids have ruined America's pasttime. One of the all time greatest pitchers, Roger Clemens, has tested positive even though he has testified in front of court saying he has never used them.

This hasn't been confirmed yet but if A-Rod did indeed test positive we will shake our heads at another disappointment and we will have to move on.
