Pacquiao vs. Bradley: Latest Buzz Surrounding Boxing's Big Fight

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

With so many big sports stories going around right now, the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley fight this Saturday night has almost snuck up on us.

That is a relative statement, since Pacquiao is the biggest star in the sport of boxing, so it's not like there has been no buzz for this super-fight.

In fact, there is a lot of news floating around right now, with both Pacquiao and the lesser-known Bradley.

Here is a look at all the latest buzz from the showdown in Las Vegas between Pacquiao and Bradley on Saturday night.

Manny Pacquiao Not Overlooking Timothy Bradley (The Miami Herald)

One of the biggest stories when this fight was first made was how Bradley was not ready for the spotlight, and just put in this spot because of his affiliation with Top Rank Promotions.

Pacquiao doesn't see things that way, telling The Miami Herald that he thinks Bradley presents a number of interesting challenges.

"

“Bradley is a different type of fighter and we don’t take this fight lightly,” Pacquiao said. “We have trained hard for Bradley because he is the type of fighter we cannot underestimate.

“I don’t know what Tim Bradley will bring in the ring on that night, but we will be ready for whatever he brings.”

"

That sounds more like posturing from someone who is trying to sell a fight than anything else.

Freddie Roach Wants Manny Pacquiao to Retire If He Struggles (ESPN UK h/t Associated Press)

When Freddie Roach speaks, more often than not, it is best to just tune him out. He wants to say things that make your ears stand up, instead of actually trying to add something useful.

His latest comments to the Associated Press are interesting, simply because he says that Pacquiao should walk away from the sport if he struggles against Bradley.

"

"Bradley's no killer, but he tries hard," Roach said, according to the Associated Press. "Manny should eat him up as he comes forward. I think Manny should look really good in this fight.

"If he looks bad, he retires. At least I'll tell him to. And he may be the first one who will listen to me."

"

Pacquiao is going to do what he wants to do, not what anyone else tells him what to do. Roach may have some pull because of his relationship with Pac-Man, but he won't determine anything.

Timothy Bradley Fears the Southpaws (The Desert Sun)

Bradley does not have a lot of fans coming into this fight. One thing he is not a fan of is Pacquiao's fighting style. Specifically, he is not looking forward to dealing with the different way to fight a left-handed boxer.

Here is what Bradley told The Desert Sun leading up to the big show on Saturday night:

"

“I know in training I'm not getting hit a whole lot with it,” Bradley said. “In the beginning of training camp, I was getting hit with it, but now I am stepping underneath it — great defense and great footwork and counter-punching. I've been looking really good and not getting hit a lot in training camp. I am dialed in on the left hand.”

"

Southpaws are an adjustment for any fighter, but if you can fight, then it shouldn't matter how you are getting attacked. Bradley has to use his aggressive style to keep Pacquiao off-balance.
