Will Jeff Hardy Ever Regain the WWE Championship?

Sam BrownFeb 7, 2009

After what happened at the Royal Rumble with his big brother Matt Hardy, the big question in wrestling now is whether or not Jeff Hardy can win the WWE Championship again.

The Long Road

Jeff Hardy made his debut in WWE in 1993 against Owen Hart he worked mainly as a jobber. Then he returned later in '98. Throughout that time, he experienced quite a bit of success.

He's had dozens of memorable matches in WWE, including the tag team triple threat TLC matches with his brother Matt against Edge & Christian, and Team 3D.

He's also held championship gold in WWE. Various tag team championships, European championships, Hardcore championships, Light Heavyweight championships, and even an Intercontinental championship.

However, the one belt that eluded him was the coveted WWE Championship that he had been dreaming of since he was a kid.

It took Jeff Hardy about 10 years to finally realize that dream.

Pulling the Trigger

Jeff Hardy has one of the most loyal followings that any wrestler has ever had in this business.

Some are extreme enough to where they absolutely refuse to believe anything that is negative about Jeff Hardy.

Well, aside from those people, every wrestling fan is fully aware of the reasons why WWE held off so long on putting the title on him.

Clear and simple, WWE is afraid to put the title on Jeff Hardy because he has a history of screwing up.

It's really hard for them to make him the centerpiece of the company when there's a fear that he may not show up for work.

The big reason why they decided to give him the WWE Championship was because he was simply too popular for them not to try, and try they did.

One Hit Wonder

A lot of fans aren't going to want to hear this, but there's a very good chance that Jeff Hardy will never win the WWE Championship again.

When WWE gave him the title a couple of months ago, one of the big reasons why they did so was to silence some of the fans who have been complaining about it for 10 years now.

There's going to be a lot less fans complaining about a lack of a second title reign than there were that were complaining about the first title reign.

With those fans silenced, that decreases the chances of Jeff Hardy ever capturing the WWE Championship ever again.

Closing Thoughts

I'd love to see Jeff Hardy getting a longer reign with the title, but I won't bet the farm on it. He might be a No. 1 contender every now and then...maybe. But he probably won't win the title.

This has been an Assassin article.
