MLB Draft Order 2012: Complete List of Selections for Entire Draft
The MLB draft is unlike any other draft you'll find.
For one, it lasts an obscene 40 rounds over three days—a true grind for scouting departments and front offices.
Moreover, a large portion of high school players drafted every year don't sign with the teams that draft them, choosing instead to go to college or deciding that they simply don't want to play for the team that drafted him.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Philadelphia still hasn't forgiven J.D. Drew.
And of course, few other drafts are as unpredictable as the MLB version. While we often can tell which players at the top of the draft will thrive in the NFL and NBA since we've seen them perform in college, baseball prospects—with the occasional can't-miss exception—are almost always a shot in the dark.
All of this leads to an entire round immediately after the first round concludes that is comprised solely of compensation picks. We're not talking about the sixth-round picks an NFL team might get—we're talking a glorified second round here, folks.
Let me put it to you this way: The Colorado Rockies get a second-round pick because Mark Ellis signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason. Mark Ellis hit all of .248 with seven home runs and 41 RBI last season.
Not a bad deal.
But without further ado, here's the entire draft order for the first round, compensation round and second round, along with a link for the draft order over all 40 rounds.
Enjoy the MLB draft, you baseball junkies.
